Steam Carpet Cleaning  vs. Dry Carpet Cleaning

What method should I use ?

I hope this article takes the confusion out of what the difference is between Steam carpet cleaning and Dry Carpet cleaning (spin pad method ) Their are currently at least five methods of carpet cleaning. The two methods of cleaning that will be explained here are the ones most widely used. If you have never had carpets cleaned before you really don't know what you are paying for. The first thing that you as a customer need to understand is that one of these cleaning services is a corrective cleaning the other is a maintenance cleaning. Here is some enlightenment.
Lets start with Dry Carpet cleaning. Spin pad method. (maintenance cleaning), and the correct way the system should be used. If not used this way you as a customer should demand a refund. This is an absorption system of carpet cleaning and does not extract soils in any way. Being it does not extract soil the first step in this process is the technician  must run a machine across the carpet called a pile lifter. This machine has a rotating brush and loosens the sand or large dirt particles to prepare for the second step, vacuuming.
The next step is the technician sprays a water based cleaning solution on the carpet. It's supposed to be a dry system right? Go figure. He then proceeds to put a yarn type pad under a janitorial type floor machine and then spins it on the carpet. The logic is the soil should absorb into the floor pad. The downfall to this system is not only does it not extract but it is also only a surface cleaning.
Steam Carpet cleaning... Steam cleaning is the correct cleaning method. When this method is used correctly the technician #1 sprays the carpet with a prespray to loosen stains and soils. Step #2  The Cleaning Technician will use a carpet cleaning wand, a mild heated solution will then be injected into the carpet fibers and immediately extracted back out, taking soils, allergens, pet urine etc. out through a tube to the truck. (Truck mounted steam extraction). Portable extraction systems can also be used but aren't as effective as truck mounted systems.
Ultra Klean has chosen steam carpet cleaning as our primary cleaning system for the last twenty five years because of its effectiveness. A simple analogy is that it duplicates what your washer does without the full soak. After all when you want to clean your clothes you wouldn't rub a towell on them to remove the soil. You want those clothes washed, rinsed and extracted.

Sincerely,

Brian Kmetz
